SCHOOL! september?!

Hey Guys!

WOW! That’s all I can say about today and the prospects for my SENIOR year!  This is a pic of my school, isn’t it pretty?! I am so stoked about my classes, and about just being back to the crazy social world I call high school. I am taking some great classes (so excited for AP Psychology, is that nerdy?) ;p I also have some super cool teachers. Once I get the college applying process, and SAT/ACT’s out of the way it’ll be smooth sailing :) Actually choosing which colleges I’ll apply to is the daunting task ahead… To stay in California, or not to stay? that is the question. Haha. I hope your school year is off to a good start as well! I feel like I’m in a good place right now. I’ve got a great boyfriend, I am a senior, and I am feeling pretty confident about myself and what I have going for me this year. This feeling just proves that it takes time to become comfortable with yourself, and even after 3 solid years of high school, I’m STILL learning how to deal. So take a deep breath if you are feelin a bit lost or overwhelmed with the thought of high school years ahead. You’ll be fine! Hang tough and you’ll see that times like the present are ones that you’ll learn the most about yourself from. I can say that with honesty as I am speaking from experience. My freshman and sophomore year were a bit rough, but I realized that it was up to me to change, not others around me. I became more open and joined clubs, and explored a whole new side of people and high school!

Anyway, that’s enough about that for today. Off to read some Beowulf! I picked up some poetry by Emily Dickinson and I can’t wait to read some of her poems! She is a beautiful writer and I love the way she perceives the natural world.

School early early (7AM) early! Haha, I’ll be on again soon. Happy September!

It’s true, what they say–

Summer has come to an end

Where is the closure? Lost not found, and the sun sets on another day.

 Today, unlike the one before.

I no longer sit on the sands near the fire as the night goes by.

Instead,  I ponder the busy days in store.

Wanting nothing more. Than to hear an answer. To this question.

Where did the time go?

  • Enjoyed reading your summer reflections.

    Have a great school year!

AP Psychology sounds like a wonderful class.

  • Katy Fetters says:

Thanks! I am super excited for the class, have you taken it (or anything similar?)

  • Kate says:

Sounds like fun! What clubs do you do?I think I’m doinv community service club and taking tennis lessons.

  • I learnt some of the psychology I needed to know from looking at the posters that the students did.

And there is a very honourable tradition of “street psychology” as well. (which you could do on your stretches, walks and runs).

  • Katy Fetters says:

Kate- Last year I was VP of a Save the Dolphins Club, which promoted awareness for trying to stop the slaughter of dolphins in Taji, Japan. Watch “The Cove”, its a documentary about what goes on there every season! Its tragic, and our club did a few activities to get the public aware of the intense problems of dolphin slaughter.
I was also in Amnesty International, a Human Rights club. We’d go to protest some events and such, involving Womens’ Rights and discrimination against races and sexual orientations.
This year I am in National Honors Society, and we do a lot of community service and what we call ‘campus beautification’ haha… and I am going to try to get into Amnesty again. I think there’s a club for people with disabilities that I’d love to get involved with. And maybe a Spanish club would be fun!
Good luck with club rush week and tennis! That sport takes a lot of agility! I’m impressed. :)
    Adelaide-
I’m curious about street psychology, that sounds like an easy way to learn things you can’t learn in a classroom.

  • Did watch (some pieces of) The Cove. Very worried about what Norway is doing to the tuna and the dolphins at the moment. Scientific research …

One of my teachers was part of Amnesty International, so have been well aware of the social justice group for some time.

For me, street psychology started as part of a performance workshop. We were asked to observe the faces and voices of those in the street, as well as their body, and then take it into our own work receptively and expressively.

  • Katy Fetters says:

Yes, I was very shocked at some of the things people can get away with. People would even be surprised to know that they might’ve eaten dolphin meat!

Oh that’s cool about your teacher involved with AI.

Body language is sometimes a dead give away, for certain methods of psychology…I’m really excited to learn about the human mind and behaivor.

  • Meg says:

i took regular pysch, honors and AP in HS. its really fun but its harder in college so i changed it. Im reading Beowolf now for my class, english major. A peice of advice i have is after you fully decide on the schools you want to apply to, apply as soon as you can so there is a spot. If the school already has a bunch kids from your HS or area in that year grades and activites wont matter. They will have filled a quota.

  • Katy Fetters says:

Yeah I am having a tough time deciding what schools may be right for me. I am also thinking of costs as well, because general ed is really the same where ever you go, and in that aspect, a 2 year might be okay for me now. I’m just not sure! Haha, what do you think about going to a junior college and transferring?

  • Meg says:

you can always do that, take the gen eds, keep your grades up and transfer later. It also gives you time to think about a major

  • Katy Fetters says:

That’s what I am leaning toward I think haha. I want to be really ready to dive into a major when I am paying that much! How do you like majoring in English? It’s my favorite subject. :)

  • Meg says:

its pretty cool so far. im taking a medival britian course and a science fiction course in enlish this semester. I get to write alot. The hardest part is learning to really manage time and space thing out and plan ahead. Im also a eduction major so i have to take courses for that, im taking educational pychology this year and learning about the brain…..again.

  • Katy Fetters says:

Oh that sounds interesting. So far, I’m not sure if I am a fan of Brit. Lit….I like studying the evolution of american philosophies in lit. We did that a lot last year in English. You sound busy! Haha, I am sure you are going to be a pro at time mangement when you graduate….good luck!
