Sometimes leads to an even more spontaneous fall off the bike!
Hey Guys…Haha so here’s how it went: I was riding along minding my own business when I came upon this dirt hill, and in order to get beyond the hill onto this nice pathway, I have to ride super fast over it, right? Can you picture it? Add in a tremendous amount of wind coming off the ocean and it becomes extremely difficult! And this is the perfect example of how my CP affects me physically– I am not as strong and coordinated on my left side, so I use a little foot clip on my left pedal to keep my foot from slipping off. Back to the story– so there I am chugging up this hill and ohhhh man, I lose my momentum!! What do you know, I start to lean towards my left side aka my CP side with my foot trapped in the pedal. Gahh! Just the perfect scenario, All I could do was dread the fall to the ground!! Luckily for me, no one was around to see this embarrassing spill! And fortunately again, I was fine, my elbow is a little bruised, but it is nothing I haven’t seen before from all my years of biking and falling! Haha.
Which brings me to another painful memory back in 7th grade and I was riding my bike to my friends house…. All I remember is going really fast on the sidewalk and then waking up on the curb next to a bus bench that I apparently rode into! Haha I got up, put my helmet back on that evidently fell off, and called my friend and told my sister who was there at the time, that I fell and got there as quick as I could. I just remember being really confused, not even hurt, but my cheek was numb. Yikes! So as I entered her house, she just looked at me and (in shock) and asked if I needed a band-aid. Haha so I’m thinking, wow is it really bad or something?? I had a burn all on my cheek, a black eye, and to top it off, my sister later nicknamed me Bubba Gump because my lip was so swollen I looked like the guy from Forrest Gump. The next day at school all the kids at school were like “what happened to your face!!?” and all I’m thinking is “ok, like I don’t already get enough negative attention as it is!”
Point of the story is, looking back I notice I have had twice as many bike falls as anyone I know… and I haven’t really noticed up until now that most of them are due to my CP and lack of balance, strength, and coordination! I still love to ride my bike everywhere though, because it give me time to think, it is good for me, and of course these falls that happen to me all make a great story someday ;) Now is the time to share your mishaps and stories with CP if you’d like :)
Well I must say a farewell….I bid you all a goodnight, talk to you tomorrow at CHAT TIMEEEE!!
