Meeting another Teen (well almost a teen) CP’er!

26
September

Hello!

I hope you’ve all had an eventful weekend, I know I have! I seriously believe that we are experiencing a heat wave out here! Today it was probably in the 90′s, luckily I was able to hit the beach to relax and cool off in the water. But wow, what a weekend with this weather.

I am soo excited to say that I got to meet up with Cassidy! She is my elementary school teacher’s daughter who is 10 and has CP as well. We went on a nice hike/walk near the beach today with a big group of people associated with my parents gym, and it was so much fun (and incredibly hot!!) Cassidy and I were both noticing that having this blog is a really big eye- opener, as we are realizing how many people around us have CP, or know someone who has it.

Cassidy, I loved being able to get to know you! It was so great talking to you about having CP and what it is like running and playing sports. I love that you read my blog so often, and I am so glad we are friends. :) We will always share CP as our special bond :) You are such an inspiration to me, because I see how well you walk! It makes me want to take stretching more seriously so I can walk just as well as you do. I think it is so cool how you are reading buddies with the little girl who has CP and uses a walker. I know she looks up to you! I can’t wait to see you next week so we can hike together again. We need a pic next time so I can post it on here, okay!? Have a great week at school. :)

Gotta run, homework time & then SLEEP.

CP Peeps up & coming!

8
November

Hey all…

I hope you are enjoying the first few weeks of the beautiful autumn season! It has been cooling down here in sunny California, finally! How was your Halloween? Anything new?

Quick question- For those of you who have had surgery, what are your results like? What is recovery like? I have spoken with a few, and I am considering doing a procedure once again but I would like ALOT of feedback before I make this big decision. Thanks, I appreciate any help.

With that said, I’ve been doing good myself, just trying to stay busy with school, working, and going to the gym as often as I can. I think working out is one of my favorite de-stressors. I feel so good about myself, so rejuvinated, and ready to take on anything that comes my way! Although I’m not some super fitness guru, I try to do the best I can about staying active and healthy. I feel like my day is not over until I get outside and go for a walk or work on my core strength training. I have gotten back into yoga recently and I forgot how much I love it! My good friend and I are going to get a monthly membership and give it a go. :)

I also got these new shoes that are not running shoes but trail shoes, and they give such great support towards where I need it most. I strongly recommend trying out some new shoes if you feel like you are struggling a bit with walking or jogging (whatever it may be) because I have noticed a tremendous difference in the way I walk, my agility is so much better and I walk more “straight on” rather than with my foot turned inward, as I do in my case. I had no idea shoes could be so comfy :p haha.

WOW!

So I just received an email from this upcoming author, John Quinn…he is in the middle of producing his first novel, Someone Like Me: The Unlikely Story of Challenge and Triumph over Cerebral Palsy, that is scheduled to be released in the Spring of 2010. I read the first chapter and I am already hooked! Check out his website and spread the word – www.johnwquinn.com  His life experiences seem intriguing and inspriational to say the least I can’t wait to read his book!

Also, yet another inspiring person with Cerebral Palsy- Bonner Paddock, a member of Orange County’s own United Cerebral Palsy group, he has shared his incredible story of climbing a 19,000 ft. mountain! He documented his journey and shared is with the world, check it out! http://www.beyond-limits.com/home.php

Congrats to Both John and Bonner for amazing successes with challenging yourself with CP. Hearing your stories makes me feel like I can accomplish anything that comes my way. I  hope that all of you teens out there feel the same way and keep at it!

I’ll be on again soon, I’m working on make my posts shorter and more frequent. ;) Enjoy your Sunday afternoon!
