SUA Movie Night, among other things :)

23
November

Hello Everybody!

I can’t believe November has come and is already almost over! And Thanksgiving is tomorrow, wow! I don’t know about you all but I cannot wait for some of my mama’s yummy food! I hope you have all been doing good lately… sorry I have been so out of the loop as of late on here…. school has picked up a lot lately. I can’t believe I am already registered for spring semester and planning my concentration! I hosted a movie/fundraising night with a club at Soka and there was a pretty good turn out! About 35 students showed up and we raised nearly $100 (not bad for my first college event, eh? :p) Anyway, we watched Beyond Limits– Bonner Paddock’s film about climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro to raise money to build centers for kids with disabilities. I was so happy to be able to talk a bit about CP and this great cause to my classmates… and while I am here I want to thank Bonner for coming to the showing and talking with everyone afterward about the climb and the OM Foundation, that was really great!

In December a few people from Soka and I are going to UCP-OC’s Friday NIght Club for teens with disabilities to hang and socialize. I am super excited about that! It’s nice that Soka is so cool to the Life Without Limits center, I am excited to show some people what they are really all about! I think it will be a great way to connect with others and who knows, maybe event meet some more teens with CP! :) More to come on that in a few weeks…

On a random note, we started the wheel in ceramics yesterday (that spinny thing that you can make pots and plates on) and I never realized how much work that is on your hands! Having CP on my left side, definitelt does not exclude my hand! Has anyone ever had any difficulty with ceramics or anything like that? I didn’t realize how easily it could fatigue my hand haha.

Well I am on the run once again– Off to Big Bear Mountain for a few days with my family, yay! I hope it snows… Take care everyone, happy holidays and for those of you traveling, please do so safely!

Thanksgiving Break

29
November

Hey Guys!

Wow it has been a crazy, but super fun break! I dont think it was long enough between going to Arizona, Thanksgiving, and college apps. (oh, and don’t forget sleeping in on occasion ;p)

I hope you’ve all had a nice break and that you were able to spend it with your loved ones. Did you eat lots of turkey?? My mom cooked a 22 pound turkey, it was huge! Our feast was complete with turkry, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and homemade biscuits mm. I don’t think it could get any more American than that! My cousin came down here from Santa Cruz, we had so much fun together! I wish I was able to be closer to my cousins and relatives so that we could hang out more often.

Arizona was so much fun! It feels like forever ago, but it was only last weekend. The drive up was super easy, it was like a mini roadtrip. :) On one of the days, the weather was crazy! Complete with wind that whistled and shook the windows, and evetually even hail as it got more moist and cold. (The pic up above on this post is the view from our house–beautiful rainbow in between all the wacky weather!) It was exciting for us to stay inside and experince that kind of weather so we just lazed around all day and played scrabble and watched a good tear-jerker (Pearl Harbor <3) Where we stayed in Northern Arizona is a nice, small, western town with not much going on. We were glad to see something different for a change, and since my friend rides horses we checked out a ton of cute little stores that sold little western/indian style knick knacks. I think we all bonded a little bit more, since we got to cook for eachother and shop together. The whole weekend was so much fun, I am sure we will do it again when time slows down again. :) Another fun part about going up to Arizona was that I met up with a friend of mine who also had CP! He’s 19 and has a milder form as well, that affects mostly his right side. The cool thing was that his mom was the one to actually see TeenCP in an article, and that’s how we got talking!  It was interesting to talk with him about CP because we were able to “compare” in a way, how CP affected us. I walk with my foot more turned in that he does, and his arm was more affected by CP than mine is. I was glad to have been given the opportunity to talk to him about CP because as common as this disability is, it still feels like there’s no one around like you at times. I hope to continue to meet other people (teens hopefully) that have CP. I really feel like CP is something special that we all share and are able to connect with. That was a super memorable experience and I just thought I’d share it with you!

Hmm, what else did I do over break? Well we did celebrate my dad’s birthday! We had a nice family dinner at a great sushi place nearby, and I wrote him a nice little poem. :) What did you do over break? Any family reunions? Vacations?

I hope you all are well, even if it is Monday. :p

Can you believe December is already arriving? Ahh the count down for Winter Break begins….

Painting Nails with CP :D

17
November

Hey! ( I took this pic awhile ago, my beach is so pretty ahh <3)

So I don’t know how relevant this is to all you girls out there with CP…but I now can successfully paint my nails with my left hand (CP side)! Haha, I find this very cool since I have never been able to have the ‘good’ of control over my hand. It took me about a half hour, because I am a perfectionist, but I was just happily surprised that I was able to do it without painting my entire hand :D   Are there any TeenCP’ers out there that have struggled with this problem as well?

Hope you’re all having a nice week, I am looking forward to this weekend, for I am off to Arizona with my girlfriends, yay! :) I am also just finishing up my UC and Cal State applications, another yay!

Any plans for Thanksgiving? I will be spending mine with my family of course! Lots of turkey and mashed potatoes with gravy are in my sights, yum. Don’t forget the apple pie too! My cousin who is a freshman at UCSC is coming down for a few days, so that will be fun to share Thanksgiving dinner with him!

Hope you are staying healthy as we enter the colder months of the year. What an exciting time of year this is! So much to look forward to, I love the holidays. All the best wishes to you this season :)

Hallelujah!

23
November

Hey guys!

Yay for Thanksgiving break!! I am so excited to be able to relax a bit and eat yummy food of course. :)

I hope you all have had a splendid week, and doing something fun for your time off!

Tomorrow I go for an appointment with my orthopedist, who did my last surgery when I was only 5 years old! I will be discussing my options– whether that be surgery, botox injections, cerial casting…I just hope to finds some answers! I feel like I need to do something, because lately I have been feeling the affects of my CP set in, as I am done growing now and I am probably as tight as ever, unfortunately.

I’ll let you know how that goes ;)

Enjoy your time off I know I will! I’m headed to San Fransisco for a few days this week, just to explore the city with my immediate family. I’m excited! I gotta get ready to head out on Tuesday, but I’ll be back on tomorrow so stay tuned. :)

I’m also in the middle of writing a story for www.teenshealth.com, so if you have any subjects you feel I should touch on, speak up! Thanks guys. Have a great week, and Thanksgiving meal!
