Rainy Day

Posted on 27. Feb, 2010 by Katy Fetters in Random

Hey Everybody!

Sorry I haven’t posted since last week, school has been crazy this past week, and now I have started soccer!  I am so stoked that we start games March 13th! A bunch of my old teammates came back for spring, and were all happy to be together and just have fun out there. Today is a rainy day, so I think I might catch up on some recorded shows and movies. :) I am reading this one book for my outside reading book for English called A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith and it is really good! The book is about a family (the daughter)  in 1912, living in poverty…I really enjoy the writers style and how the story is laid out, there are a ton of flashbacks and history to the family. Today is a good day to wear my brace since I’ll prob be inside most of the day, might as well get that extra stretch. I went running these past few days to get in better shape for soccer, and it felt so effortless. I was super happy that it wasn’t as hard as it used to be before castings. I run about a 10 min mile, but that is good enough for me..as long as I stay fluent and get the most out of my work out, I don’t care what the clock says. Hopefully tomorrow it will be nice enough to go on a bike ride, those are my favorite. It is so pretty to ride along the beach and watch the ocean, and people interacting and doing their own workouts. Do you guys do any workouts that would be fun to share?

Well I’m going to get movin for the day. Enjoy your weekend!

I’m not a teen with CP, but I’ll say my workouts are similar to yours (except running; my gait makes that impossible except in an emergency). I LOVE bicycling. Love love love it. I also really like swimming, and I use a stationary bicycle and an elliptical trainer in the gym. I can’t say I like them, but they get my heart rate up.

Right up there with bicycling for my favorite exercise is yoga. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love yoga. And folk dancing. You hardly notice you’re huffing and puffing when you’re having so much fun!

Hmmm, workouts eh? Well, I don’t know how to ride a bike (which totally sucks) and I can’t run. My “workouts” are usually stretching those God forsaken hamstrings…I suppose that’s pretty much it.

One day I’ll get up n’ fly like the wind…one day :)

Thats the spirit eh, Courtney? :) You should try yoga though, its a great stretch, especially for those hamstrings and its fun!

I feel the same way, biking is way up there on my cardio of choice. its fun and easier on the joints, muscles :)

I just found out about this website and i think it a pretty cool website. yes, but i have to workout and do stretching which i dislike to do cause it gets boring over time. im 19 years old. it nice to see im not the only one dealing with this cp. cause sometimes i feel like im the only one sometimes.

    Hi Kiki!
Thanks for checking out my webisite, I think it is pretty fun to be able to connect with other people just like me. Well youre not the only one, so come on here anytime you feel lonely. :) I agree that stretching does get a little arduous after all these years, but I wear a brace at night so I get a stretch even when I dont try. Where does your CP affect you mostly?

It affect me im my legs, mostly in my right leg and foot, the right one a little bad than my left. I have a hard time balancing. so i walk with cruthes.

Aww Courtney, you are so sweet :)

Kiki- I am fairly similar to you, my balance is effected always as well, so most of the time I just have to walk my step. I hope you don’t feel too restrained by your crutches from doing everyday activities… would you mind me asking how you deal with having crutches? Does it affect you a lot? I’m sure it’s rough having to use them, I can’t imagine. -Katy

Well, like opening up doors, I have to have my friends carry my shopping bags when i go to the mall, I can’t carry a purse i have to have it a strip around it so can carry it over my body. i cant get the little cute purse that you have on your shoulder or a hand bag. it just little smiple stuff. i hope i don’t sound silly. Like going to the club and just seeing my friends dance. I mean i can dance with them but it would be much easier without them. It feels like ppl dnt want to dance with me because of it. thats just how i feel. I dont use my cruthes around the house, just when im at school or out with my friends. but it affects aot. I just use to it now. so it dnt really get to me no more. just sometimes

Hi Katy! One of my fav workouts is spinning. Its so much fun! Its a great cardio workout (you burn about 1000) calories in a class; but what I really like is that the bikes are stationary – so the chances of me falling off are pretty slim!

Plus each bike as a resistance knob on it, so the rider can control how hard he or she wants to make it. Obviously the more you dial up the resisistance, the harder it is – but its your choice.

Hope you all are doing well!

    Keep charging – John

    Katy: Thanks Katy :)

Kiki: I have a friend who is similiar to you Kiki. People would really be surprised just how many CPers are out there. Her name is Dixie n’ she also carries a strip around her body. I help her with her things whenever I see her.

I like the way your coping with your own personal challenges. It’s kind of funny how the little things can be the hardest. People really take SO much for granted.

Thank you:) it real nice talking to you guys:)

    07. Mar, 2010

I agree, Courtney I couldn’t have said it better myself! :)

Kiki, even though I don’t have to use crutches and all that stuff, I am really self conscious about going to dances as well, I feel like I am so uncoordinated, and there is no way anyone would want to dance with me. I dont think people tend to realize the small things that affect us, like going to a dance, or being surrounded by new people who dont know what is wrong with your body or leg, and all they do is stare. It’s just all a part of living with differences. I think we’ve all just become used to it at a certain exent, but whenever there are those moments when youre just down on yourself, you know where to find us TCPers! :)

And same with your purse situation, I cant wear high heels…we all just have a little something we have to live without, although it sucks. I have to say, it is nice when my friends treat me the same, and theyll point out something they would like on me, and I just say oh I cant wear that…I like it because I have to remind them of my CP, its like they forget when they are around me and I just love that. :)

John–I just saw your unapproved comment, oops!

Yes! I use stationary and spinnign bikes all the time at my parents gym, they are so practical! We actualy had a studio for a few years that had spinning, but I was too young to understand the benefits of it! Now I am such an advocate of bikes and those alike, because I dont tire out as quicky, and I feel like the cardio is easier on my joints.

Congrats on your book, and everything you are able to be involved in on promoting it! Cant wait to see it on the shelves. Let me know how it all goes.

    Take care, Katy

Yeah, my friends are like that too. Although, they’ve never actually asked me about it. I asked them why n’ they said that it didn’t really matter to them. So yeah…

I know what you mean about the dancing and the heels–luckily my boyfriend can’t dance either so we dance in place like 8th graders lol. I wish I could wear heels but sadly no.

  23. Katy Fetters

    08. Mar, 2010

Really? How come you dont talk about it with your friends?
Yeah, slow dancing is probably all I can do too :p Guess my guy will have to live with that one day. Haha.
